Chrissy (kittens) Blake Feature from Passion Pinups

Here’s my girl who created and runs Passion Pinup Magazine. Chrissy and I have developed a wonderful friendship and make sure to look for both of us in the upcoming Spring Issue that comes out March 21st so stay tuned. I’ve written a few articles on Passion Pinups Magazine on here several times but I wanted to do a feature on the lady who created this fabulous magazine.

Here’s her bio where she talks about her relationship with her guy Brett, how they started dating, her art background, (which by the way I think that’s magical because you all know I went to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco) how they started Passion Pinups, and a lot more.

…ok, here we go!

” I think much like what you see on the instagram posts and facebook page this whole thing was a collaboration between myself and Brett.
We’ve been together for 14 years and I met him when I, I guess you would say, looked a lot different than I do now.
When we started dating he was very into photography and was doing a lot of action sports stuff for BMX. He’d always want to take pictures of me as well but when I would look at the photos, I was not happy with what I was seeing.
So we never really pursued anything with it. I guess what I mean is I felt constantly sick and was not comfortable with the way my body looked. One day while getting ready to go to work, I took a spill on our deck and severely sprained my knee and I resolved after that happened to try to figure out exactly why I was having issues with the way I felt physically and to figure out why I was unable to control my weight even though I worked out daily and watched my calories. I had a friend who told me all of the problems they used to have and how they were able to fix them by going on an elimination diet. Taking out all the known food allergens and they had discovered they were gluten intolerant. I used to always have (and still have to an extent) lots of issues with my gut. I decided that I needed to try to figure out what was causing these issues and this seemed like a good place to start. So I cut out all these possible allergens and started to feel so much better. This also had the side effect of it helping me to lose weight and I started to feel a bit better about the way I looked. One evening I came into the bedroom and Brett said “gee you look…different”. (Guys are quick on the uptake sometimes, lol). At that point I had lost about 35 pounds and was feeling so much better physically. I used to always joke with him that “if I ever got to “x” weight, WATCH OUT, because I am going there. Well, I got pretty close to where I wanted to be and we started talking. Brett likes to do fairy and pinup type art in 3D and I told him, I would so rock crazy outfits like what those girls you render wear, what do you think? Since he was into photography as well, like I mentioned, we discussed doing photos and started to try some different stuff.
It was very nice to finally be able to feel comfortable and not physically ill anymore so we started experimenting. Even though Brett was good at photoing action sports, taking pinup photos was a whole different realm for him. LOL. After some trial and error and lots of photoshoots and outfit buying I said to him, put some of these out there and see what response we get.
So we did. I was a little trepidatious at first because I started doing this in my early 40’s and wasn’t sure how I’d be taken but I figured it’s now or never so I came up with the name Chrissy “Kittens” and posted some photos on Facebook pinup pages. At one point the magazine Delicious Dolls shared out one of my photos and to my surprise it got thousands of likes! I was overwhelmed! It was very cool that others could see what the end result of my hard work was. So we kept taking photos and I would post on pinup pages and the like but never really pursued it because, like for so many of us, it’s just a hobby that I enjoy doing. Brett would send out photos to some of the magazines but we only really got one or two hits back for photos. I was having fun but felt like Brett and I were doing a lot of pretty good stuff and it was hard to get recognition!
I have a background in pen and ink art and told Brett we should just do our own pinup magazine, because, well, we’re artists and we realize how hard it is to get in these magazines!  LOL. He loved the idea but then said, I only have you and a friend of ours as models, that’s not a lot to do a magazine! Well, I said, we gotta start somewhere. Put us in it and do some issues and we’ll keep putting it out there. I got on twitter and instagram and started to follow and like different pinups and artists and just said, “love to have you in our magazine”. It took some time but eventually a very nice burlesque promoter from the UK, Lady May J, got back to me and asked how she could help. I said, do you have anyone who would like to be in my magazine. “Sure thing hun” and that basically started it rolling forward. From there it began to snowball and now it’s becoming much easier to get people into the magazine and I finally have people asking me to be in there as opposed to going all over trying to find contributors.
It’s been awesome having the magazine evolve and I love seeing all the different contributors! I’m hoping that other women seeing this magazine being run by a pinup and also having a wonderful partner who supports them in whatever they love (Brett does a lot of supporting…I am also an avid animal lover and have…chickens, turtles, tortoises, spiders, dogs, cats, fish, snakes…) (CHRISSY GIRL, YOU’D LOVE MY THREE SNAKE TATTOOS I HAVE, HEHE. MY MOM USED TO RAISE SNAKES WHEN SHE WAS YOUNG AND I LOVE THEM. HEHE) will inspire them to take charge and make happen any dreams or ideas they may have.
I know personally how hard it is sometimes to work up the courage to say, I’m gonna do this and see where it leads, so I hope that by getting new people involved in the magazine and getting them recognized we help others being to pursue their dreams whatever they may be!

Ugh, there’s so much little nuances here and there that I could go into but that is the gist of it, lol. Essentially this whole thing from me doing pinup to starting the magazine was a collaboration of love between two people who believe in each other and try to lift each other up every day to wherever their passions may bring them.”

I loved reading Chrissy and her journey and like I said earlier, I’m so glad her any I have become good friends. I’ll post her social media info at the bottom. Enjoy these lovely photos of her in her everyday life. She is so beautiful and such a kind lady.

Heavy Metal Spooky Sexy Sister Rhonda Burnett

I’ve been wanting to feature the beautiful and amazing Rhonda Burnett for awhile and today is finally the day. I’ve known Rhonda for over three years and I refer to as my “Big Sister,” because she is just that. She is very nurturing, giving, and one of the kindest and strongest women I know. She also loves Halloween, the horror genre, and all things spooky as much as I do which is never a bad thing.

Besides all the sweet qualities Rhonda has, she has the most amazing and sickest tattoos I’ve ever seen. She loves horror, especially Tim Burton and a lot of her ink are Burton characters which I absolutely am in love with. You can’t go wrong with Tim Burton in my opinion.

She had a lot of ink done when I first met her and has gotten a lot more done since I’ve known her and I must say that all of her tattoos are well thought out as to where she wants them and what exactly she wants done. I love her attention to detail. Rhonda’s ink is so amazing that she has won awards for it and has been published in magazines which you can see below. Even her references are very specific to her style and don’t look like anyone else’s. Check out these photos and clips of her spectacular tattoos!

Here is a little background how the gorgeous Rhonda fell in love with the horror genre and specifically Tim Burton films.

“When I was 5 my uncle Tom got me into classic horror films… My first one was Frankenstein. I called him Frankie because I couldn’t say Frankenstein… And it took off from there. I’ve been into horror every sense. I rented the movie The nightmare before Christmas for my sons and I to watch and fell in love with it.. From that point on I got into Tim Burton films.  I got my first sleeve of the nightmare before Christmas movie on my right arm which took about 5 months to complete. Then I went on to get more tattoos of some of my favorite Tim burton movies, like Beetlejuice and Lydia, Edward Scissorhands and Frankenweenie I eventually got a recent portrait of Tim Burton on my leg… I thought to myself I love his movies and him so much I thought I need a tattoo of him on me. So I that was the last tattoo I got. 3 of my tattoos have won numerous awards. I’ll send pictures when I get them all gathered.

I really like to dress up during the month of October into some of my favorite characters. My Edward Scissorhands tattoo was featured in Inc skin magazine as well as my Nightmare Before Christmas sleeve.”   -Rhonda

Besides all the sisterly qualities she has that I mentioned above, Rhonda is also extremely artistic and can do her makeup to completely change her look and can make herself look like she stepped out of the movies which I absolutely love. I can’t get over her makeup skills and talent and if her and I lived closer together, we’d be doing our makeup together every day. Below are just some of the many looks she has created. It’s just a tiny taste. If I could I would post a lot more of her photos than I already have. I love showcasing other people’s talent and art, especially when it’s someone that I really love.

I really admire Rhonda. She has such a kind and beautiful soul and is all about working hard and family which she loves more than anything else which is so beautiful. She also supports her friends and the work that they do, including myself and my art which I greatly appreciate. I also appreciate how much she loves Halloween, the horror genre, and all things spooky which is never a bad thing.

Sweet Dreams From the Gutter

finalcova

I first hear musician Dirk Vermin’s original band, “The Vermin,” years ago and I instantly liked them. I’m a huge lover of punk, and when I say punk, I mean true punk, not pop boy bands pretending they’re punk. If I had to choose another band that reminds me of “The Vermin” I would say Social Distortion who I absolutely love.

After hearing and learning about Dirk Vermin and his band, I saw him on a show that shall not be named. Dirk is extremely talented and I’m so glad I got my Bettie Page tattooed by him last year. Him and his new band, “Dirk Vermin and the Hostile Talent,” are extremely talented and pure punk and rock and roll. The album, “Sweet Dreams From the Gutter,” is a bad ass record and the title song is probably my favorite one although they are all good. I definitely recommend checking them out.

My Heavy Metal Horror Sister Angela, (part 2)

Image-1 (1)

Like I said in my previous post, here’s my sister Angela with her amazing makeup looks and tattoos. For her makeup, one is of her as Marilyn Manson, one as the Pinup Dollface killer from the movie, “The Strangers,” and as Captain Spaulding from the movie, “House of 1000 Corpses.” She did her looks all herself and I’m hoping to do a tutorial with her in the future.

For her tattoos, I love all the horror movie ink she has had done. Also her spooky sexy Halloween chest piece is absolutely amazing and didn’t have it when I did her first feature here. It’s one of her newer works of art and I’m absolutely in love with it.

Angela is such a talented chick as well as extremely kind, sweet, and supportive which is why I consider her like a sister to me. I’m so happy she is in my life.

Jeffree Star Tutorial and Hot Photoshoot

I did a hot Jeffree Star themed photo shoot today and it was very sexy and fun. For the shoot, I dressed up in the first piece of  clothing I ever bought from Jeffree Star Cosmetics which was the sexy black vegan vest with the  pink lip ammunition and star ensignia that you see here. I got so into this rock and roll themed shoot, I had to wear my hot, punk rock black and blue wig. Since my first JS clothing purchase, I have bought a bunch more. And don’t get me started on all the JS makeup I own. In today’s photoshoot, with the exceptions of my wig, bottoms and shoes, I wore nothing but Jeffree Star. I truly love all of  Jeffree’s products and when it comes to the makeup, all the formulas, such as the lipstick formula is top notch. It doesn’t make your lips feel super dry like other liquid lipstick brands do and is very easy to apply.

I’m losing count on all the Jeffree Star lipsticks (liquid and the lip ammunition) I have and will be buying more soon I’m sure.

The SKIN FROST highlights are amazing too and I already know what color I want to get next.

I could go on and on about how much I love Jeffree’s products!

My Baby Sister Caitlin

Ok so there is a brand new girl at my job and she is a makeup artist and beauty coordinator like me. She started at my job a few weeks ago but since I was in Vegas for one of the weeks, I didn’t meet her until yesterday and immediately it was love at first sight. Her name is Caitlin and during our morning meeting, I noticed her right away; her raven black hair, red lipstick, alabaster skin.  I was thinking that this girl looks amazing. Once the meeting was over and work was about to start, Caitlin came up to me and said that she was so happy that there was another girl in cosmetics with a similar style to her. I told her I felt the same way. We laughed and chatted a bit about some of the same things we liked and I decided we were kindred spirits. We then started telling people we were sisters because we almost looked exactly the same. It was a lot of fun tricking some of the woman there and I think Caitlin will continue to tell people that we are sisters cause even though I just met her, I feel like she is my sis. Work was definitely fun.

I wanted to blog about her not only because she is awesome, but because she represents a lot of the themes I have to my blog such as, she is a rock and roll chick like me, has a sexy alternative style, (Clothing and makeup,) we share the love for the same bands, OUR LOVE FOR THE HORROR GENRE, AND more. The fact the we have both been to the same goth style bars such as “Bar Sinister,” in L.A, love the same music, and love the gothic scene, and more, is amazing.

I did a little video of her to introduce her and I’m sure I’ll blog about her soon but thought you would love these beautiful photos of us and video of Caitlin.

Make sure to check out her amazing photos on her instagram,  https://www.instagram.com/caitlinmaxsonn/?hl=en

Love you girl and THANK YOU CAITLIN FOR THE “FOUND MY TWIN, snap chat photo!

My trip to Las Vegas

This past Wednesday, I left to take my mini jaunt to Las Vegas. Coincidentally, it was the same day that all the Southwest airline systems and computers crashed causing a horrible delay for all the flights. It was very frustrating but I managed to finally get to Vegas about three hours later then planned. When I touched down in Vegas, I immediately went to the MGM Grand Hotel to check in. After waiting in the check in line for about 45 minutes, I FINALLY got my room key. I was so exhausted and was very happy to get to my room where I watched “Deadpool,” on the movie station and ordered myself a lovely room service dinner. It was a nice relaxing evening after a long hot day of traveling which should’ve been a very short and easy trip.

The next morning, I woke up early and treated myself again to room service, a delicious breakfast then got dressed to start my day. About fifteen minutes before ten am, I took a cab over to my friend and amazing artist Dirk Vermin’s tattoo shop, “Pussykat Tattoo,” to get a new tattoo on my rib cage, which was a beautiful Bettie Page portrait that I had chosen. This was to be the highlight of my trip. It was so nice to see him and we talked for a bit before he actually got started on my piece. I had already sent him the exact image I wanted and he and I came up with a great way to do it as well as the right placement on me and look and style of it. We then got started and for the next few hours, Dirk and I had our fun ink session. A few times we had to take breaks, not because I was in a lot of pain, but because of other things, including  fans coming into to meet him, a consultation, and other things. I met some of the other artists that worked at his shop and friends which was fun. Finally about five minutes before my piece was finished, I told him I needed a break because of the pain but it ended up being perfect timing because during that time, Dirk’s fiance’ (and my new friend), Erica came in. I was so happy to finally meet her in person and I instantly loved her. We chatted for awhile and then Dirk finally finished my Bettie Banger piece which turned out beautifully. I was so happy and was immediately in love with my new ink. When we finished, Erica drove me back to my hotel.

That night, Dirk and Erica picked me up to go out and we went to the new “Wahlburgers” restaurant where I met one of Dirk’s friends who worked there who was very nice. The three of us sat the bar and had some yummy cocktails (and shots) and delicious food. I also showed my lovely Bettie off which everyone seemed to like, talked and compared stories with Erica about our men, had one of the bartenders talk to me about different psychobilly bands, and take photos. It was a really fun night and even with the 109 degree weather outside, I had an absolute blast with them. When they later dropped me off at my hotel, I fell asleep because I had an early flight back the next morning.

When I was dropped off at the airport in the morning I was really upset to learn that Southwest was still having a lot of problems and had canceled my flight home. I was able to get another one but into LAX which is not closest to where I live. On top of that, my flight was almost two hours late because of waiting for one of the flight attendants to arrive from another destination. The plane was so hot and uncomfortable that  I was glad it wasn’t a long flight. Finally when I touched down and arrived in Los Angeles and got my ride, I was so happy. It was so nice to get home after what felt like days in the airport.

Besides the airport problems I had, my mini trip to Las Vegas was a lot of fun and I was very happy I had gone out there. Getting my Bettie pinup girl and seeing and going out with my friends was definitely worth the trip. I can’t wait until Dirk and Erica come out to California next and hopefully they will get to meet my man and talk about getting him a new tattoo as well on our next Vegas vacation. A huge thank you again to Dirk!

Feature on Natasha

IMG_0528

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a feature showcasing a specific person and their bio, likes/dislikes, their fashion style, and music so I felt like it was about time to do a new one. This feature is about the lovely Natasha. This  19 year old beauty resides in Northern Ireland and I first met her through social media and instantly knew she was a cool girl with a wicked sense of style and had a lot of the same interests as me such as our mutual  love of horror movies (ESPECIALLY FREDDY KRUEGER AND JASON, which of course are two of my favorite all time horror characters especially Freddy), similar music tastes, and more.

IMG_0530

I had asked Natasha some questions and asked her to put together a little bio of herself and she knocked it out of the park. Here is her story.

” I’m considered the black sheep of the family when it comes to my fashion sense,” she says. If she had to explain her fashion style, it would be very rock & roll, metal, and a bit of goth thrown into the mix. “My music taste is basically  the same as my fashion, which includes Guns and Roses, Meatloaf, HIM, and Night Wish just to name a few.” Green day also made a big influence in my early teen years. Oh and Elvis is my first love.”

IMG_0531

“God I couldn’t begin to describe my love of horror movies and horror icons. Freddy and Jason are definitely in my top ten faves,”  which is definitely a girl after my own heart.

As I was reading more of Natasha’s bio I was excited to learn more and more about her.  For example, she is a tattoo and piercer apprentice. I used to be a piercer a long time  ago so it was so cool to find out another thing the two of us have in common.  This is how she describes her work, “My art work is of a fantasy horror type so it’s an aquired taste, but it makes the “normals” look again at my work which I love.”

Here are some fantastic photos that Natasha sent me. She explained to me that her and her family are very big Halloween freaks and when they dress up for it, they either are in horror or comedy costumes. “Hence the KISS photo from a few years back, and the Freddy Krueger costume I wore last year and it was my first time working with FX makeup.” I love how she did it.

IMG_0529IMG_0532

So here’s my girl Natasha’s feature which I really enjoyed doing. A big shout out “THANK YOU,” to her! To see more of her, find her on INSTAGRAM UNDER HER COOL SCREEN NAME, DEVILS_REJECTS_.
